Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 3, 2026
UninstallGuard is a focused Mac uninstaller. It finds the files an app leaves across your Mac, explains every result, and moves only what you select to the Trash. This policy explains what data the app touches and what, if anything, ever leaves your Mac. The short version: UninstallGuard keeps your data on your Mac. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers.
Data that stays on your Mac
To do its job, UninstallGuard reads information about the apps and files on your Mac - names, paths, sizes, bundle identifiers, and similar metadata - and analyzes it on your device only to decide which files belong to the app you are removing. The contents of your files are not read for analysis, and nothing about your files is sent to us or anyone else.
UninstallGuard keeps a local History of what it removed - the original and Trash locations of each item, whether it succeeded, and the result of the follow-up scan - so a removal is reviewable and recoverable. This history is stored only on your Mac, in your user Library (Application Support), and never leaves your device. You can clear it from within the app.
Permissions
To scan the protected areas of your Library where app leftovers live, macOS may ask you to grant UninstallGuard Full Disk Access. Everything read through it is processed on your Mac and never transmitted. You can grant or revoke it at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access. UninstallGuard does not use Accessibility, Screen Recording, your Camera, Microphone, Contacts, or Calendar.
Removal is recoverable
UninstallGuard's own removal flow moves items to the macOS Trash and has no permanent-delete path. Nothing is preselected: a scan is information, not permission, and you choose what leaves before anything moves.
When UninstallGuard connects to the internet
UninstallGuard has no analytics SDKs, advertising, tracking cookies, or crash-reporting services, and it does not require you to create an UninstallGuard account. The only times it makes a network connection depend on how you obtained the app.
If you obtained UninstallGuard through Setapp, updates are delivered by Setapp, so the app does not perform its own update check. Your entitlement to use the app is managed by your Setapp account, so UninstallGuard does not use a license key, contact a licensing service, or compute any hardware fingerprint. In everyday use the app makes no network connection of its own.
If you installed UninstallGuard directly from our website, it may connect in only two situations, both of which you control:
- Checking for updates. The direct build uses the open-source Sparkle framework to check whether a newer version is available by requesting an update feed from uninstallguard.app. Like loading any web page, this reveals your device's IP address and the version being checked to the server hosting the feed. It does not check automatically in the background; it contacts uninstallguard.app only when you choose “Check for Updates…”. It does not enable Sparkle's optional system-profile reporting.
- Validating your license. When you activate a direct-purchase license key, UninstallGuard contacts our own license service - which we run on Cloudflare's infrastructure - to verify your purchase and register the activation to your Mac (this is how the device limit is enforced). This sends your license key and a privacy-preserving hardware fingerprint: a one-way hash of a stable hardware identifier, used only to label this activation. It is not your device name or your user name, and the raw identifier never leaves your Mac. Your license key is stored in your Mac's Keychain and is never written to logs.
Purchases and third parties
UninstallGuard does not process your payment. Your purchase and account data is handled by a merchant of record acting as an independent controller for that transaction:
- Through Setapp. If you obtain UninstallGuard through the Setapp Marketplace, Setapp (MacPaw) and its payment provider act as the merchant of record and handle your account, billing, and payment data under Setapp's own privacy policy. SKJ APPS does not receive your payment-card details from Setapp.
- Directly from our website. Your purchase is processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record, under Paddle's privacy policy. We do not receive or store your payment-card details. We handle your license and activation records ourselves under this Privacy Policy; they are not shared with the payment processor.
For direct purchases, our license service (hosted on Cloudflare) and our payment processor (Paddle) run on infrastructure that may be located in the United States, so the limited data described above - your license key, a hashed device fingerprint, and the details you provide to Paddle - may be processed there. Where this involves transferring the personal data of users in the EU, EEA, or UK to another country, we and these providers rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, under their data-processing terms.
Data retention and deletion
Because your data lives only on your Mac, you can remove it - your history and settings - by deleting UninstallGuard and its Application Support folder. We do not hold a copy to delete on your behalf. For direct purchases, we retain only the license and activation records needed to honor your purchase and enforce the device limit. For Setapp purchases, your account and billing data is retained and secured by Setapp (MacPaw) under Setapp's own policy.
Who controls your data and your rights
UninstallGuard is published by Schaun Johnson, trading as SKJ APPS. For any question about this policy or the limited data described here, contact support@uninstallguard.app. For a direct purchase, we process your license key and a hashed activation label to deliver and honor your purchase and to enforce the device limit, and your payment details are handled by Paddle as an independent controller. For a Setapp purchase, your purchase and account data is controlled by Setapp (MacPaw) under Setapp's privacy policy; direct data-rights requests about that data to Setapp.
If you are in the EU, EEA, UK, or California, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the license and activation records we hold, and you may object to or restrict that processing, by emailing support@uninstallguard.app. We may need to keep the records required to honor an active purchase or to comply with law. EU, EEA, and UK users may also lodge a complaint with their local data-protection authority. SKJ APPS does not sell or share your personal data and does not use it for targeted advertising.
Children
UninstallGuard is a utility not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
