How to cancel a CleanMyMac subscription
Updated October 4, 2026
Where you cancel CleanMyMac depends on where you bought it: the Mac App Store, MacPaw’s own store, or Setapp. Here is how to cancel in each place, what happens afterwards, and how to remove the app cleanly once you are done with it.
First, find where you bought it
If you are not sure, check the App Store first. If CleanMyMac is not listed among your App Store subscriptions, it was bought from MacPaw or came through Setapp. If you bought the one-time version, there is nothing to cancel.
Cancel in the Mac App Store
- Open the App Store and click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Open your account: depending on your macOS version, click your name again or click Account Settings, and sign in if asked.
- Click Subscriptions, or Manage next to Subscriptions.
- Click CleanMyMac, click Cancel Subscription, and confirm.
If there is no Cancel button, or you see an expiration message in red, the subscription is already canceled. Apple keeps the steps for every macOS version on its page Cancel a subscription from Apple.
Cancel a MacPaw Store subscription
- Sign in to your MacPaw Account.
- Choose CleanMyMac.
- Click Cancel Subscription.
- Follow the prompts to confirm.
MacPaw says the status changes within 2 to 3 minutes and a confirmation email follows, so check your spam folder if it does not arrive. Their own steps are on MacPaw’s cancel subscription page.
Cancel through Setapp
If CleanMyMac came with your Setapp membership, you manage it in your Setapp account: open the Subscription page, click Manage subscription, click Cancel subscription at the bottom of the page, answer the short survey and confirm. This ends the whole membership, so every Setapp app stops working when your current billing period ends. Setapp’s steps are on Setapp’s cancel subscription page.
What happens after you cancel
- You are not charged again.
- CleanMyMac keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for. After that, MacPaw says most features lock until you subscribe again.
- The app stays on your Mac until you remove it. Deleting it never cancels anything, which is why canceling comes first.
Removing CleanMyMac afterwards
MacPaw’s own instructions give two ways: drag CleanMyMac to the Trash, which they note can leave files behind, or let CleanMyMac’s Applications tool uninstall CleanMyMac itself.
If you would rather see what is left before anything goes, UninstallGuard handles CleanMyMac like any other app. Quit CleanMyMac, then choose it from UninstallGuard’s list or drop it on the window. Each file it left shows its path, size and the exact reason it matched. Nothing starts selected, and whatever you approve moves to the Trash. If you already dragged CleanMyMac to the Trash, the files it left show up under Possible Orphans, never selected for you.

Questions people ask
Does deleting CleanMyMac cancel my subscription?
No. The subscription belongs to your account, not to the app on your Mac. Apple says deleting an app does not cancel its subscription, so cancel where you bought it first, then remove the app.
Do I lose CleanMyMac as soon as I cancel?
No. MacPaw says CleanMyMac keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for. After that, most of its features lock until you subscribe again.
Can I get a refund?
MacPaw’s support page says purchases from the MacPaw Store can be refunded within 30 days in most cases, by sending a support ticket with the Request a refund option. App Store purchases go through Apple’s refund process, and Setapp purchases through Setapp’s.
I bought the one-time version. Is there anything to cancel?
No. A one-time purchase does not renew, so there is nothing to cancel. You can remove the app whenever you like.
